I read a very good article on muscle regulation problems in ADHD, but alas it doesn't exist it English. (Though the research it's based on does.) It's about how 80% of people with ADHD have difficulty regulating muscle tension.

If you have ADHD, these motor function issues may be linked to it (and may be helped by medication):

  • Muscle pain! Just in general! Super common!
  • Being unable to sit upright/straight-backed for long periods of time. (Over-tension in chest and back leads to exhaustion.) Poor posture is a symptom of ADHD and not your fault!
  • Getting out of breath quickly, despite being in decent shape. (Again, muscle tension in chest and back.)
  • Problems with handwriting and fine motor function. (Shoulder tension limits mobility.) Tension in hands/elbows means it's hard to control how hard you write, especially over time.
  • Co-movement in hands and feet. When you write or draw, you might move your feet along too -- this why it's more comfortable to sit on your feet while doing this!!
  • General clumsiness, being able to fine control muscles leads to bumping into things. It's hard to control both the force and the flow of movement.
  • Physical exhaustion and tiredness. Cause. You're tensing.

All this does not necessarily prevent ADHDers from being accomplished athletes, though they found these same problems in ADHD athletes. Nor does ADHD mean general motor function problems, so it may not necessarily be detected in motor function tests. And even if you know how to do stuff and can do it, these problems usually show up with repeated movements.

As you grow older, your body learns to compensate better - however there's also higher instance of muscle pain and exhaustion.

All these things are improved by stimulant ADHD medication. It is also very beneficial to do muscle stretches, esp for your back.

Or water fountains, public washrooms, outdoors tables, etc, etc

Notice how removing seating doesnt actually prevent people from sitting it just makes them uncomfortable and makes public spaces more hostile it doesnt actually work at controlling their behavior not till a pig comes along anyways and they'll harass a homeless person/teen whatever they're sitting on.

opposite of a solution what if a grandma needs to sit? what if a disabled needs to sit opposite of accessibility

I am sick of Neurotypicals saying they have the solution to your problems bc it works with them.

Despite them saying you are not "normal" and they don't understand you.

Like planners, like having a routine, like leaving stuff always in the same place, trying sports, etc...

Something that a lot of neurotypicals fail to realize is that not everything works for everyone, just because it worked for you doesn’t mean it’ll work for me

"The trannies should be able to piss in whatever toilet they want and change their bodies however they want. Why is it my business if some chick has a dick or a guy has a pie? I'm not a trannie or a fag so I don't care, just give 'em the medicine they need."

"This is an LGBT safe space. Of COURSE I fully support individuals who identify as transgender and their right to self-determination! I just think that transitioning is a very serious choice and should be heavily regulated. And there could be a lot of harm in exposing cis children to such topics, so we should be really careful about when it is appropriate to mention trans issues or have too much trans visibility."

One of the above statements is Problematic and the other is slightly annoying. If we disagree on which is which then working together for a better future is going to get really fucking difficult.

I think this is something young people in particular are confused about. My dad has always had a slightly off color sense of humor, he always feels the need to privately ask me “boy turned girl or girl turned boy?” if I mention a friend and stress said friend’s pronouns, and yet when we had repair work done in the house and the worker was listening to a podcast discussing the evils of transgender people and how to cleanse society, he went out of his way to contact the owner of the business to discuss his disappointment with that worker’s conduct and stress the negative effect that could have had if there had been trans kids in our home.

Our allies will never be perfect. They will never use the perfect language or have the perfect politics. But we have to appreciate those allies and meet them where they are, especially if they are willing to learn.
